Plans for the Macedon camp began 2 yrs ago when Chris got talking to Lorraine and Norm – ARPA members now living in Macedon, Victoria – about joining the Gisborne Bushwalking Club for a possible camp. The result was 48 Adelaide persons made themselves comfortable at the Macedon Caravan park/ the nearby hotel/ or at the neighbouring towns of Gisborne and Woodend.

The Gisborne Bushwalkers were wonderful hosts and the countryside was a brilliant green filled with beautiful autumn colours. Our Gisborne guides provided B & C walks covering the very enjoyable Lerderderg, Anakie and Werribee Gorges, walks up and along Mount Macedon and through various forests of the area. A feature of interest was the rocky outcrops up-lifted by volcanic activity, the most spectacular being Hanging Rock of ‘Picnic At Hanging Rock’ fame which amused many easily for an hour or two exploring all nooks and crannies.

Also included in our day of R&R was an outing to ride the V-Line train to Castlemaine and a steam train to Maldon where some chose to walk to Muckleford before the return trip.

A few of our guides were kind enough to include morning or afternoon tea at their residents during their walk. One had us walking through their paddock of Llamas – some as tall as us and so delightfully curious.

 We had begun our camp with a ‘pot-luck’ BBQ on a chilly evening in a reserve in central Gisborne and finished with a buffet dinner and speeches at a café on the foggy summit of Mount Macedon. There is hope that we can reciprocate the kindness of the Gisborne Bushwalkers in the near future.
